Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is a common mushroom in Tennessee. Say it: heh-rish-ee-um eh-rin-ay-see-us.

How to know it

  • Has: Long hanging spines
  • Has: One white clump
  • Does not have: No cap or gills

The spines hang down like icicles

Choice edible

Never eat a wild mushroom without an expert

  • Grows on Wounds on living hardwood trees
  • Trees Especially oaks
  • Conditions Cool, damp fall weather
